OUR WATER EXPERTS

Genevieve Upton
Our Taap Head of Water Filtration
Genevieve Upton has spent the better part of two decades working at the intersection of water science and everyday life - making sense of what's actually in our water, why it varies so much from one postcode to the next, and what can genuinely be done about it.
As Our Taap's in-house filtration expert, Genevieve brings a rare combination of technical depth and plain-English clarity to a category that has long suffered from both misinformation and unnecessary complexity. She has worked with water quality laboratories, consulted on filtration system design, and spent considerable time - her words - "trying to explain trihalomethanes to people who just want their tea to taste better."
Much of Genevieve's work sits in an area most people don't immediately consider: water and the drinks industry. She has worked extensively with breweries, soft drink producers and premium drinks brands on the science of water filtration, quality and its effect on flavour - because water isn't just an ingredient, it's the ingredient. The mineral composition of water shapes everything from the bitterness of a lager to the finish of a cold brew coffee, and the brands that understand this tend to produce noticeably better drinks. Genevieve helps them achieve it.
Alongside her work at Our Taap, Genevieve runs educational training courses on water filtration and quality, designed for industry professionals who want to understand what's actually coming out of their tap - and why it matters. Her approach is consistent across all of it: no scare tactics, no jargon for its own sake, just clear and honest information about a subject that affects every household and every drinks producer in the country.

“Your tap water picks up the character of everything it touches. The rock it filtered through, the pipes it travelled along, the time it spent sitting overnight before you turned the tap. Filtration is really just the last, and worthwhile step in a very long journey.”
