Our Taap Maze™ UV purification

What it is and how it works.

Most home water filtration systems make a trade-off. Carbon filters improve taste but leave heavy metals, pharmaceuticals and pesticides behind. Reverse osmosis removes almost everything - including the minerals your body needs - and wastes significant water in the process. Each technology addresses part of the problem. The Our Taap Maze™ + UV Purification system was engineered to address all of it. Patented, independently certified, and exclusive to Our Taap, it combines 3 stages of filtration with UV purification into a single, compact system - removing contaminants across every category while retaining the natural minerals that make water taste the way it should. No trade-offs. No water waste. Consistent performance from the first glass to the last.

How it works.

Maze+ UV uses five categories of purification - each designed to do what the others cannot.

Pre-filter: large particle removal The first category removes large visible particles - sediment, dirt, rust and debris that enter water through ageing pipes and infrastructure. Removing these early protects every category that follows, ensuring consistent performance throughout the filter's full lifespan.

Fine particulate filter: sub-visible particle removal A finer filtration stage catches the particles too small to see but still present in your water - microparticles and suspended matter that passed through the pre-filter. By this point the water is physically clear, and the remaining stages focus entirely on chemical and biological purification.

Maze™ membrane: advanced contaminant removal beyond carbon This is where Our Taap goes further than any standard filtration system. The patented Maze™ membrane is engineered specifically to capture what carbon block filters cannot - heavy metals, pharmaceutical residues, pesticides, hormone traces, asbestos fibres and more - while retaining the calcium and magnesium your body needs.

Carbon block filter: chlorine, taste and odour removal Activated carbon adsorbs chlorine, chloramines and volatile organic compounds - the substances most responsible for tap water tasting and smelling off. This stage also captures contaminants larger than one micron, leaving the water noticeably cleaner in flavour.

UV purification: biological protection The final stage destroys 99.99% of bacteria, viruses and protozoa at the point of dispensing - in real time, without chemicals, and with no effect on taste or mineral content. Mechanical filtration, however thorough, cannot reliably eliminate microorganisms. UV can. Together, the two technologies cover every category of contaminant.

What it removes.

The Maze™ + UV purification system addresses contaminants across every chemical, physical and biological category. This is what no single-stage filter system achieves. Maze™ membrane specifically targets:

  • Heavy metals - lead, mercury, cadmium and other metals leached from pipes.
  • Pesticides - agricultural runoff compounds entering the water supply.
  • Pharmaceuticals - drug residues including hormone treatments and antibiotics.
  • Hormone residues.
  • Asbestos fibres - from degrading pipe infrastructure.
  • 99.99% of cysts - Giardia, Cryptosporidium.
  • Limescale redauction.

Carbon block targets:

  • Chlorine and chloramines
  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
  • Contaminants above one micron

Pre-filters target:

  • Sediment, rust, dirt and debris

UV purification targets:

  • Bacteria - E. coli, Salmonella, Legionella, Campylobacter
  • Viruses - Hepatitis A, Rotavirus, Norovirus, Adenovirus
  • Protozoa - Giardia, Cryptosporidium

Retained throughout:

  • Natural minerals - calcium and magnesium

How it affects taste.

How Maze™ + UV purification affects taste

Improvement in taste is noticeable and comprehensive. Chlorine - the single most common cause of taste and odour complaints in UK tap water - is removed by the carbon stage. The Maze™ membrane then removes the broader range of chemical contaminants that can subtly affect flavour even when chlorine has been addressed. UV purification adds biological protection without any effect on taste whatsoever.

Critically, calcium and magnesium pass through the Maze™ membrane intact. These are the minerals that give water its clean, slightly mineral taste - the thing that makes water taste like water should. Remove them, as reverse osmosis does, and water tastes flat and empty. The Maze™ system removes what affects taste negatively while keeping what contributes to it positively.

The result is water that tastes genuinely clean, balanced and consistently good - not stripped, not flat, not faintly chemical. Just water at its best.

Filter life.

  • Maze™ filter - six months or up to 2,000 litres (Home Water System II)

A smart tracking system monitors usage and pushes replacement alerts directly to the Our Taap dispenser. You always know exactly where your filter is in its lifecycle - and when it's genuinely time to change it. Performance is never assumed. The Maze™ filter is engineered to maintain consistent filtration effectiveness throughout its entire lifespan. The last glass it filters is as clean as the first. Many filters perform well when new and degrade as capacity fills. This one doesn't.

Maze™ filter

The pros.

Removes contaminants across every category.
Chemical, physical and biological - the Maze™ + UV system addresses all of them in a single unit. Heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, chlorine, sediment, bacteria, viruses and protozoa are each targeted by a dedicated stage. No single-stage filter comes close to that range.
Retains natural minerals.
Calcium and magnesium pass through the Maze™ membrane intact. These are the minerals that give water its clean, balanced taste - and unlike reverse osmosis, this system keeps them in while removing everything that shouldn't be there.
Zero water waste. Every litre that goes in comes out filtered.
Reverse osmosis discards three to four litres for every one it produces. Maze™ + UV wastes none.
Consistent performance throughout the filter's lifespan.
Many filters perform well when new and degrade as capacity fills. The Maze™ filter is engineered to maintain the same level of filtration from the first glass to the last.
Smart tracking - so you always know where you stand.
Usage is monitored automatically, and replacement alerts are pushed directly to the dispenser panel. There's no guessing, no approximate indicators, and no risk of running a filter past its effective life.
Independently certified to three NSF/ANSI standards.
NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401 - covering taste and chlorine reduction, heavy metals, and emerging contaminants including pharmaceuticals and pesticides. Each requires independent laboratory testing. Most home filter systems carry one. Maze™ carries all three.
No chemicals added.
UV purification is entirely physical. Nothing is introduced into the water, there are no disinfection by-products, and taste and mineral content are completely unaffected.
On demand - chilled, ambient or boiling, instantly.
Filtered water at every temperature, available the moment you need it, without refilling, waiting or compromise.
Certification
The Maze™ filter's performance is not self-certified. All three NSF/ANSI standards require independent laboratory testing by NSF International - one of the most trusted water quality certification bodies in the world.
NSF/ANSI 42
Taste, odour and chlorine reduction NSF/ANSI 53 - Heavy metals and health-risk contaminants NSF/ANSI 401 - Emerging contaminants including pharmaceuticals and pesticides. Most home filter systems carry one of these standards. The Maze™ filter carries all three.

The cons.

It requires professional installation.
The Our Taap Home Water System II is a mains-fed, plumbed-in system. It is not a countertop jug or a plug-in device. Professional installation is required.
The upfront cost is higher than simpler systems.
Comprehensive filtration, independent certification, professional installation and a smart tracking system come at a cost that exceeds a jug filter or basic carbon undersink system. For households where budget is the primary consideration, the monthly subscription model exists specifically to address this.
It will not match reverse osmosis for extreme contamination scenarios.
For households with specific, severe water quality concerns - well water, known industrial contamination - reverse osmosis removes a broader range of dissolved substances. For the vast majority of UK homes, where source water is already safe and the goal is better taste, peace of mind and comprehensive everyday filtration, this distinction is largely academic.

The honest summary.

Maze™ + UV is not an incremental improvement on existing home filtration technology. It is a fundamentally different approach, one that removes contaminants across every category, retains the minerals that make water taste the way it should, wastes nothing, and maintains consistent performance throughout the filter's entire lifespan.

For most UK homes, where tap water is already safe but rarely at its best, it answers every question at once. Better taste. Peace of mind about what's in the water. No refilling, no waiting, no compromise on minerals. A system that looks after itself and tells you when it needs attention.

Most water systems ask you to compromise somewhere. This one doesn't.
